The designation 8mm Mauser or 8x57mm is the SAAMI nomenclature for the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge adopted by Germany in 1905. This cartridge is also knows as the 8×57 IS under the specifications of the C.I.P. Due to these discrepancies, marking on the headstamp or box of ammunition may not match the markings on the rifle. This same cartridge is also commonly called the 7.9mm, 7.9mm Mauser, 7.92 Mauser or Cartridge SA 7.92, all depending upon the manufacturer of the rifle or ammunition. This ammo is current commercial production ammo designed to function in bolt action rifles.
